A healthy lifestyle including proper nutrition and exercise as well as mental and emotional health is critical to a student’s academic success at UConn. However, given the intensity of law school, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be difficult to achieve. UConn Law offers a variety of services to help students stay healthy, both physically and mentally, throughout the challenging academic year.

Physical Fitness

On-Campus Gym: Located in basement of Starr Hall, the Law School on-campus gym offers several pieces of cardio equipment including elliptical machines, treadmills and stationary bicycles. It also has free weights and benches. The gym is also equipped with two televisions with cable.

On-Campus Yoga:  This weekly one hour class is taught by a trained yoga instructor from the West Hartford Yoga Center and is offered to students and faculty free of charge. The date, time and location of these classes are distributed to students via emails from the Student Bar Association.

In addition to on-campus exercise facilities, students may prefer to join a gym close to their home. Students living in the Greater Hartford Area have many choices when it comes to choosing a off-campus gym that suits their fitness needs and budget. For your convenience we have created a list of area fitness centers.

For students who prefer to exercise outdoors, the West Hartford Reservoir is a picturesque spot for a walk, jog or bike ride. It hosts a paved 5K loop with a dedicated bike lane as well as trails for mountain biking.

Mental and Emotional Health

Faculty and staff at UConn Law recognize that being a law school student is a rewarding yet challenging three or four years. The School of Law is committed to creating a supportive and nurturing environment where all students can reach their full potential. Given the rigors of law school, the Student Affairs staff is available for all students who feel that the pressures of school are negatively affecting them -  whether it be physically, mentally or emotionally. Students are encouraged to visit the Wellness Guide for a list of local resources.

The Assistant Dean of Students and the Director of Student Affairs are also available to aid students when unexpected personal life issues occur during law school such as illness or bereavement, especially those that have the potential to affect a student’s academic success. Students are strongly encouraged to speak to the Student Affairs Office as soon as possible when these issues arise so that any necessary arrangements can be made and students can productively continue with their academics during a difficult personal situation.
