In addition to wired internet access, there are three wireless networks available on campus:
UCONN-SECURE offers faster speeds and greater security for anybody with a NetID. It is available anywhere UConn-Guest is available, and uses WPA2 encryption. Most wireless hardware manufactured in the last four years support WPA2. Windows XP users must install Service Pack 3 to connect to a WPA2 network.
The Law ITS Department provides email service to the UConn Law community. The service includes automatic backups of mail stored on our servers, support for secure protocols for sending and retrieving mail, and extensive spam-filtering. There are three email services available to UConn Law faculty, staff, and students.
UConn provides student e-mail accounts as part of UConn Google Apps for Education. UConn Gmail can be read via a web browser or by using a desktop e-mail client such as Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Outlook. The format of your official UConn email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Clinical Email System has been developed to allow students to differentiate their personal and school work from their clinical course work. Utilizing this system will increase security and provide a medium for clinical communication between clients, instructors, and students. The Clinical Email System will be utilized by students throughout their participation in a UConn Law clinic for all communications regarding clinical work.
A range of video, web, or audio conferencing tools can be used for events and activities such as staff meetings, distance learning classes, teaching, advising, tutoring, telecommuting, cross-cultural experiences, and job interviews. When used effectively, these tools allow presenters and/or class participants to directly interact with guest speakers, professors, or other individuals and groups. However, they may require advance planning and coordination.
Event planners are strongly encouraged to coordinate with the Law ITS staff if they are considering using a video, web, or audio conferencing tool. A Law ITS staff member can review the benefits and risks for a particular tool, determine any necessary equipment, and conduct a test.
Here are some of the tools that have been used on the UConn Law campus.
Microsoft Lync allows you to check presence information for your contacts as well as send Instant Messages. Clients are available for Windows, Mac and mobile clients for Windows Phone, iPhone/iPad and Android devices. Microsoft Lync is installed on all law school faculty and staff computers.
