Michael Cantor '83 is an alumnus of both UConn’s School of Engineering and School of Law. After law school, he went into patent law and become the co-managing partner of Cantor Colburn LLP. He has dedicated more than 30 years to delivering the highest level of legal services in all aspects of intellectual property law, which has fueled Cantor Colburn’s expansion from a ten-lawyer firm twenty years ago into one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the country. Today, Cantor oversees more than 110 attorneys, patent agents, and technical advisors who assist clients worldwide in very often complex technological matters.
Cantor has been an adjunct professor of patent law at UConn for more than fifteen years. He has served on the advisory boards for the UConn’s Institute of Materials Science and UConn’s School of Engineering. He is a board member at the Connecticut Technology Council. In 2013, Governor Malloy appointed Cantor to chair the board of Connecticut Innovations. The same year, Governor Malloy appointed his wife, Shari, to UConn’s Board of Trustees.
