Diane Covello

Assistant Clinical Professor of Law & Supervising Attorney

Diane F. Covello is an Assistant Clinical Professor and works as a Supervisory Patent Attorney in the Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship Law Clinic. Her primary role is to mentor law students in their representation of Connecticut entrepreneurs. In addition, she is Counsel with the Hartford, Connecticut law firm of Alix, Yale & Ristas, LLP, where she focuses on patent procurement in North America, Central America, Europe and Asia. Attorney Covello has worked in both large and small law firms in Connecticut and Washington, D.C. and spent several years as in-house patent counsel for Spalding Sports Worldwide, managing patent preparation, prosecution, licensing and litigation. The in-house experience provided her with a broad range of opportunities to interact with legal professionals around the globe to protect patent and trademark rights. 

Professor Covello is a co-inventor of U.S. Patent No. 6,959,280 and U.S. Patent No. 6,018,714, both of which relate to Intellectual Property Insurance. The patents are assigned to IP Value, LLC. 

Professor Covello earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas and a juris doctor degree from the Duke University School of Law.
