Richard Pomp to Speak at ABA/ITP Seminars

Professor Richard Pomp will speak twice at the 2018 American Bar Association / Institute for Professionals in Taxation Advanced Tax Seminars in New Orleans. On March 19, he will participate in a panel entitled Funny Guys Discussing Hot Topics and on March 20 he will take part in an in-depth, point-counter-point discussion entitled the Annual Big Easy Brawl.

Jessica Rubin to Speak at GW Law

Professor Jessica Rubin will speak with Connecticut state Rep. Diana Urban in a panel discussion about Desmond's Law on April 4, 2018, at George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. Urban and Rubin worked together to pass the law, which allows the court to appoint lawyers or law students as advocates in animal abuse cases, in Connecticut. The Washington event is co-sponsored by the District of Columbia Bar's Animal Law Committee and the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund at George Washington Law.

Professor Peter Kochenburger spoke at the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee CLE Seminar of the American Bar Association on March 2, 2018, in Tucson, Arizona. He participated in a panel entitled The Revolution Is Now – Big Data in Claims – and Underwriting.

Mark Janis Moderates Book Discussion

Professor Mark Weston Janis served as moderator of a discussion on March 6, 2018, with Scott J. Shapiro, Charles F. Southmayd Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at Yale Law School, about his book The Internationalists: How a Radical Plan to Outlaw War Remade the World. John E. Noyes, past president of the American Branch of the International Law Association and emeritus professor at Cal Western also took part in the conversation, which was held at UConn School of Law and sponsored by the student-run Human Rights Law Association.

Professor Molly Land spoke on Jan. 25, 2018, on the Human Rights Panel at the 2018 Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment and Technology Law Symposium at Vanderbilt Law School in Nashville, Tennessee. Her topic was Human Rights as IP Anti-Subordination. Watch a video of her presentation.

Anne Dailey's Book Wins Psychoanalytic Association Prize

Professor Anne Dailey received the 2018 Courage to Dream Book Prize from the American Psychoanalytic Association at its national meeting in New York on February 15, 2018, for her book Law and the Unconscious: A Psychoanalytic Perspective. The book, released in December 2017 by Yale University Press, describes the long-standing relationship between psychoanalysis and American law and demonstrates that a psychoanalytic perspective grounded in solid clinical work can bring the law into line with the reality of psychological experience. Sara Bronin Speaks at Environmental Justice Conference

Professor Sara Bronin spoke at the Just Transition 2018 Conference at Queen Mary’s University in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 1, 2018. Bronin's talk, entitled “Climate Planning in Low-Income Communities,” concerned ways of moving toward a low-carbon economy without hurting low-income people and families.

Professor Jessica Rubin Named to Top Ten Animal Defenders List

Professor Jessica Rubin has been named one of the top ten animal defenders in the United States by The Animal Legal Defense Fund. Professor Rubin was instrumental in creating Desmond’s Law, the nation’s first statutory animal advocate position in criminal cruelty cases. The law allows Connecticut courts to appoint advocates, such as law students under supervision, in animal cruelty cases. She supervises students and appears in court to advocate for justice in cases of animal cruelty, making her one of the first attorneys approved to volunteer as an animal advocate.
