Justice Joette Katz (retired) will give the keynote address. A partner at Shipman & Goodwin LLP, she served as an Associate Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court from 1992 to 2006, and as the Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families from 2011 to 2019. Before being appointed to the judiciary, she was the first woman in Connecticut to serve as Chief of Legal Services for the Office of the Chief Public Defender.
The recipient of many awards, including the National Organization for Women’s Harriet Tubman Award, The Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund’s Maria Stewart Award, the National Council of Jewish Women’s Women of Distinction Award, and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association Women’s Caucus’ Trailblazer Award, Justice Katz will discuss how her identity has shaped her legal career.
