Olivia Tawa '17 has been hired as an associate at Seiger Gfeller Laurie in West Hartford, Connecticut. Tawa practice civil and commercial litigation, specifically with businesses and associations facing personal injury claims. Prior to joining the law firm, Tawa served as an executive editor of the Connecticut Law Review.

Andrew Lacaria '16 of Watertown, Connecticut is engaged to Megan Mancosh of Narragansett, Rhode Island. Lacaria is an investment banking analyst at Moelis & Company and Mancosh is a senior associate at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. The couple resides in New York City.

Jason Weida '05 and Kyley Weida of Hingham, Massachusetts, happily announce the birth of their daughter, Sailor Marian, on December 12, 2017. Sailor is the third child in the Weida family. The oldest, Bowen, is six and Alden is three.

Jonathan B. Mills '85 Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Jonathan B. Mills '85, the chairman and managing director at Cummings & Lockwood, has been named the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award for his professional achievement and dedication to community service. He has been practicing law for more than 30 years, mainly in the area of commercial real estate. Mills, who resides in New Canaan, was also recently elected a Life Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation.

Daniel Bender '96 Publishes New Book on Demonstrative Evidence

Daniel Bender '96 has co-authored a new book entitled Demonstratives: Definitive Treatise on Visual Persuasion. Demonstratives, which Bender co-wrote with colleagues R. Jason Fowler and Pierre E. Kressmann, is about the creation and implementation of persuasive graphics used by lawyers in trial. The book "provides the thought behind persuasive and effective demonstratives, practical and best uses of demonstrative evidence throughout your case, and a visual encyclopedia of terms and examples." Bender applied knowledge from his degrees in law, business and journalism to create 300+ examples of graphics that aim to "inspire even the most seasoned litigator" to revamp their visual presentations. Demonstratives was published on November 27, 2017 by the American Bar Association.

Daren Daniels '10 Promoted to Senior Attorney

Daren Daniels '10 has been promoted to senior attorney-adviser at the Social Security Administration's Office of Appellate Operations in Arlington, Virginia. He joined the Social Security Administration in 2014 as an attorney adviser.

Robinson & Cole Promotes Two Alumni to Partner

Robinson & Cole has announced the election of seven new partners, including UConn School of Law alumni Stephen O. Clancy '05 and Keisha S. Palmer '09, effective Jan. 1, 2018. Clancy, a member of the firm's Litigation Section and its Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group, focuses his practice on insurance coverage and extra-contractual litigation, as well as professional liability and other complex litigation. Palmer, a member of the firm's Public Finance Group, represents state, municipal, and Indian tribal governments in the issuance of tax-exempt and taxable general obligation bonds and other debt obligations. They work in Robinson & Cole's Hartford office.

Meghan O. Serrano, a partner with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP, has been named Board Member of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. Serrano was recognized at the organization's annual celebration on October 5, 2017. Her practice is focused on real property litigation, and she is certified in business litigation by the Florida Board of Legal Specialization and Education.
