The Securities and Exchange Commission announced on December 11, 2018 that Danae Serrano '05 has been named its acting ethics counsel and designated agency ethics official. Before joining the commission in 2010 as an assistant ethics counsel, Serrano served as an attorney in the General Counsel’s Office of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
Hartford Performs has appointed Charles F. Modzelewski ‘16 to its board of directors. Hartford Performs brings artists to Hartford Public Schools to teach. Modzelewski is currently an associate at Robinson & Cole, where he is a member of the firm's Insurance and Reinsurance Group.
The Aesthetic Business Institute has named Karen Albright '90 to its board of directors. The Aesthetic Business Institute will launch officially in 2019 as an educational program designed to provide training to those working in the aesthetic medical industry. Albright is the owner and president of BodyLase Skin Spa, a medical salon.
Robinson & Cole LLP announced on December 5, 2018 the promotion of two UConn Law alumni to counsel as of January 1, 2019. Emilee Mooney Scott ’10 is a member of the firm's Environmental, Energy and Telecommunications group in its Hartford office. Taylor A. Shea '10 is a member of the firm's Business Transactions and Finance groups and its Manufacturing Industry Team. She also works in the Hartford office.
Kevin Welsh '05 has been named executive director of the Office of Environment & Energy at the Federal Aviation Administration, where he previously served as senior international advisor. He also has served as a director at the National Security Council, a member of the Environmental Affairs team at Airlines for America, and an associate attorney in the real estate and environmental practice of the Paul Hastings law firm.
Denise R. Polivy '97, a former federal clerk and longtime Connecticut bankrupcty attorney, died on November 29, 2018. Read her obituary.
Thomas Groark Jr. '65, a former prominent social justice advocate and longtime Hartford attorney, died on November 16, 2018. Read his obituary.
The Connecticut Environmental Forum appointed Emily Deans '15 to its board of directors on November 26, 2018. Deans is an associate at Robinson & Cole LLP, where she is a member of the firm's Environmental, Energy & Telecommunications Group. The Connecticut Environmental Forum provides a space for sharing stories and information for environmental professionals.
The Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association honored Stephen Clancy '05 with its Rising Star award on November 12, 2018. The award is given annually to a civil defense lawyer who exhibits strong potential for leadership in the future. Clancy is a partner at Robinson & Cole LLP, where he is a member of the firm's Litigation Section, as well as its Insurance & Reinsurance Practice Group.
