The law firm Hancock Estabrook LLP announced the hiring of Courtney L. DeLia '17 as an associate in the firm's trust and estates practice. DeLia will also be involved in the firm's elder law and special needs practice areas.

Josef Volman '91 Honored With Leadership Award

Josef B. Volman '91 will be honored as an "Outstanding Community Leader" by Jewish Family Services of Metrowest at the organization's Seize the Dream event on April 30, 2019. Volman is a partner and vice president of the board of directors at Burns & Levinson, a Boston-area general practice firm.  

Judge Christopher Droney '79 to Retire from Second Circuit Bench

Judge Christopher F. Droney '79 announced he will retire from his post as a justice on the United State Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, effective June 30, 2019. At that time Droney will assume senior judge status, opening up the seat he currently occupies on the bench. As a senior justice, Droney will remain a member of the court but will have greatly reduced responsibilities. Droney was nominated to the Second Circuit bench in 2011 by President Barack Obama. His nomination was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate. Droney is one of two justices from Connecticut serving on the Second Circuit bench.

Edward Elgar Publishing has released a book by Qihao He, the first SJD graduate of UConn School of Law, "Climate Change and Catastrophe Management in a Changing China: Government, Insurance and Alternatives." The book, published as part of the Elgar Studies in Climate Law series, explores how private insurance could protect China from climate change, which was the topic of He's SJD thesis. Now an associate professor at the College of Comparative Law at China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, He also earned an LLM in insurance law from UConn School of Law.

Aigne S. Goldsby '16 Joins Neubert, Pepe & Monteith

The New Haven-based firm Neubert, Pepe & Monteith, P.C. announced it has hired Aigne S. Goldsby '16 as an associate. Goldsby specializes in medical malpractice defense and commercial litigation. 

Mark J. Cowan '04 Awarded Professorship at Boise State

Mark J. Cowan '04, professor of accountancy at Boise State University in Idaho, has been awarded the inaugural College of Business and Economics Distinguished Teaching Professorship. The professorship, given for outstanding effectiveness in teaching, is funded by an endowment established by a gift from Idaho Central Credit Union. Cowan, who teaches courses on tax law, will hold the professorship for the next two academic years.

James C. Moon '00 Joins Diversity Foundation Board

Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation announced the appointment of James C. Moon '00 to its board of directors. The foundation works to diversify the legal community by providing mentoring, networking programs and other opportunities. Moon, who is a partner at the Miami-based firm Meland Russin & Budwick, will primarily assist in recruiting mentors.
