Sarah Karwan '00 Appointed Chief of Criminal Division

John Durham '75, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut has appointed Sarah Kerwan '00 chief of the office's Criminal Division. Karwan most recently was chief of the district’s Major Crimes Unit, where she supervised prosecution of cases involving matters such as immigration, human trafficking, and hate crimes.

Jeffrey J. White '03 of Robinson & Cole LLC has been appointed by the U.S. secretary of commerce to serve on the Connecticut District Export Council for Connecticut for a term through 2022. White, who chairs the firm's Manufacturing Industry Team, provides counseling and dispute resolution advice for manufacturers and distributors throughout the United States and the world. The Connecticut District Export Council helps companies develop export strategies.

Aidan R. Welsh '04 Named a Fellow of American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

Aidan R. Welsh '04, a partner in Schoonmaker, George, Colin, Blomberg, Bryniczka & Welsh P.C in Greenwich, Connecticut, has been named a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She joins only 34 other Connecticut members in the group. The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers is an organization of family lawyers who are recognized by the bench and bar as leaders in the field. Welsh became a partner in the firm in 2015 and a named partner in 2020.

Peter M. Bryniczka '04 has been made a named partner at the law firm of Schoonmaker, George, Colin, Blomberg, Bryniczka and Welsh P.C. in Greenwich, Connecticut. His practice involves complex family law matters, including financial and custody/parenting issues.

Brynn Rail '04 Named Partner at Ropes and Gray

Brynn Rail '04 has been named partner at Ropes and Gray, working in the firm's New York office. Rail is a member of the asset management group, representing broker-dealers on various regulatory and securities law issues.

Jeffery J. White '03 Named New England Trailblazer

Jeffery J. White '03 was named a New England Trailblazer by the Connecticut Law Tribune and Law.com in a special supplement that compiles a list of legal professionals in New England who have affected change in the legal industry. White was named for his work in manufacturing law, which includes the Manufacturing Law Blog as well as efforts that helped Robinson and Cole receive the President's "E" Award for Export Service.

Colin Leonard '01 was named deputy managing member of the Syracuse office of Bond Schoeneck & King on Oct. 7, 2019. Leonard is a management-side labor and employment law attorney whose practice includes traditional labor-related work, including collective bargaining, labor arbitrations and agency matters before the National Labor Relations Board and Public Employment Relations Board.

Chris Calio '00 Appointed President of Pratt & Whitney

United Technologies has announced the promotion of Christopher T. Calio '00 to president of its Pratt & Whitney division, effective in early 2020. Calio has served as president of Pratt & Whitney's commercial engines business since 2017. He joined United Technologies in 2005 and had previously served as chief of staff to Chairman and CEO Greg Hayes. In addition to a JD from the UConn School of Law, he holds an MBA from the UConn School of Business.

Mark J. Cowan '04 Awarded Professorship at Boise State

Mark J. Cowan '04, professor of accountancy at Boise State University in Idaho, has been awarded the inaugural College of Business and Economics Distinguished Teaching Professorship. The professorship, given for outstanding effectiveness in teaching, is funded by an endowment established by a gift from Idaho Central Credit Union. Cowan, who teaches courses on tax law, will hold the professorship for the next two academic years.

James C. Moon '00 Joins Diversity Foundation Board

Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation announced the appointment of James C. Moon '00 to its board of directors. The foundation works to diversify the legal community by providing mentoring, networking programs and other opportunities. Moon, who is a partner at the Miami-based firm Meland Russin & Budwick, will primarily assist in recruiting mentors.
