Chris Calio '00 Appointed President of Pratt & Whitney

United Technologies has announced the promotion of Christopher T. Calio '00 to president of its Pratt & Whitney division, effective in early 2020. Calio has served as president of Pratt & Whitney's commercial engines business since 2017. He joined United Technologies in 2005 and had previously served as chief of staff to Chairman and CEO Greg Hayes. In addition to a JD from the UConn School of Law, he holds an MBA from the UConn School of Business.

Mark J. Cowan '04 Awarded Professorship at Boise State

Mark J. Cowan '04, professor of accountancy at Boise State University in Idaho, has been awarded the inaugural College of Business and Economics Distinguished Teaching Professorship. The professorship, given for outstanding effectiveness in teaching, is funded by an endowment established by a gift from Idaho Central Credit Union. Cowan, who teaches courses on tax law, will hold the professorship for the next two academic years.

James C. Moon '00 Joins Diversity Foundation Board

Kozyak Minority Mentoring Foundation announced the appointment of James C. Moon '00 to its board of directors. The foundation works to diversify the legal community by providing mentoring, networking programs and other opportunities. Moon, who is a partner at the Miami-based firm Meland Russin & Budwick, will primarily assist in recruiting mentors.

Jeffrey J. White '03 was invited to participate in a roundtable discussion on manufacturing at the White House on March 14, 2019. White, who is a partner at Robinson & Cole, was one of 14 attorneys invited to the conversation. 

Nine UConn Law Alumni Recognized as New Leaders in the Law

Nine UConn Law alumni were honored as New Leaders in the Law by the Connecticut Law Tribune on March 7, 2019. The alumni are: Cindy Cieslak '12; Daniel D. Kagan '14; Daniel Lage '15; Hailey Rice '12; Benjamin C. Jensen '15; Dorothy Lila Foster '04; DeVaughn L. Ward '11; Latonia C. Williams '09; Tara A. Sheldon '13; Laura Ann Keller '15. 

Five UConn Law Alumni Receive Leadership Awards

Five UConn Law alumni were recognized for their legal work by the Connecticut Law Tribune on March 7, 2019. Kenneth J. Krayeske '10 was recognized in the "Game Changer" category; Chad A. McDaniel '01 in the "GC Impact" category; Antonio Robaina '79 as an "Officiator"; Juri E. Taalman '99 in the "Unsung Hero" category; and Sarah Stark Oldham '88 as a mentor.

James C. Moon '00 has been elected vice chair of the board of directors of A Wider Bridge, the group announced on February 27, 2019. A Wider Bridge is an advocacy group working toward equality for the LGBTQ community in Israel. Moon is currently a partner at the Miami-based firm Meland Russin & Budwick.

Dana O'Brien '04 Promoted to General Counsel at Athena Capital

Athena Capital Advisors announced the promotion of Dana K. O'Brien '04 to general counsel on February 13, 2019. O'Brien joined the firm in 2014, and has worked as chief compliance officer and deputy general counsel. She will continue her chief compliance officer duties going forward. 

Alex Thacher '00 Joins Armanino LLP

Alex Thacher '00 has joined Armanino LLP as a partner, the firm announced on February 5, 2019. Thacher, who will lead the firm's State and Local Tax practice, was previously an attorney at Ernst & Young. 

Erik Lohr '02 Named Associate Attorney General

Attorney General-elect William Tong announced the appointment of Erik Lohr '02 as associate attorney general for legal counsel. Lohr previously worked as an assistant attorney general, leading the Employment Rights Department. He has also been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Connecticut School of Law since 2007. Lohr will assume his new duties when Tong is sworn in on January 9, 2019.
