The accomplishments, milestones, awards and news of UConn School of Law alumni:
DeVaughn Ward '11 has been hired as senior legislative counsel by the Marijuana Policy Project, a national organization focused on the legalization and regulation of cannabis. Ward will work closely with legislators, the Connecticut Coalition to Regulate Marijuana, and other allies to push for an end to prohibition in 2020. He will also serve as co-director of the coalition. Ward has spent the past decade since receiving his JD from the UConn School of Law gaining experience in law and public policy, including working with clients at his own Hartford-based firm.
Robinson & Cole LLP has elected Taylor A. Shea '10 a partner. As a member of the firm's Business Transactions Group and its Manufacturing Industry Team, she represents privately and publicly held companies in all aspects of corporate and transactional law, including commercial finance transactions, private equity and venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate and commercial matters. She works in the firm's Hartford office.
Chris Barrett '10 has joined Baker Donelson in Nashville, Tennessee, as an associate. He practices labor and employment law, representing employers in employment discrimination matters. Before entering private practice, he served as a law clerk at the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Connecticut Superior Court.
Jonathan H. Schaefer '11 has been promoted to counsel at Robinson & Cole LLP. He is a member of the firm’s Environmental, Energy and Telecommunications Group with a practice focused on environmental compliance counseling, permitting, site remediation, occupational health and safety, energy regulatory compliance and siting, and litigation related to federal and state regulatory programs. He works in the firm's Hartford office.
Kelly A. Scott '11 has been named a member of Pullman & Comley, LLC. She represents clients in all areas of matrimonial and family law, including prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, dissolution, custody and visitation petitions and post judgment matters.
Saxe Doernberger & Vita, P.C. elevated Bethany L. Barrese '12 to partner effective Jan. 1, 2020. Her practice focuses on complex insurance policyholder coverage issues with a focus on assessing and litigating bad faith and unfair trade practices claims. As a UConn Law student, Barresse was the editor-in-chief of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal and received both the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Insurance Litigation and the Connecticut Insurance Law Center JD Award.
Adam P. Daniels '10 has been named a shareholder at Polsinelli. The firm announced the election of 31 attorneys to shareholder on Nov. 1, 2019. Daniels is a member of the firm's Electrical Engineering/Computer Science Patent Prosecution Practice Group in Los Angeles.
Rebecca M. Murphy '10 has been promoted to partner at Pannone Lopes Devereaux & O’Gara LLC. She works in the firm's Johnston, Rhode Island, office. Her practice focuses on trust and estate planning and administration.
Aaron D. Rosenberg '12 has joined Sheehan Phinney in the firm’s Business Litigation Department. Rosenberg handles complex business and commercial disputes, and works with clients to ensure that their organizations’ intellectual property is protected. He works in the firm's Boston office.
Five UConn Law alumni are among a group of 20 former LeClairRyan attorneys hired by Barclay Damon LLP: Charles Andres '84, Deke Bowerman '75, Nic Ferland '92, Jake Pylman '11, and Shaleem Yaqoob LLM '14, JD '16. They will work in the firm's New Haven office. LeClairRyan announced in August 2019 that it was dissolving.
