Professor Peter Kochenburger has once again been named a funded consumer liaison representative for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the standard-setting and regulatory support organization for chief insurance officers in the U.S.
As one of 30 consumer liaison representatives, Kochenburger works to promote consumer interaction with the NAIC’s members, the insurance industry, and interested parties. He specifically advocates for consumer interests on property-casualty and life insurance regulatory issues. The NAIC says its consumer liaisons serve a crucial role in its efforts to protect consumers.
Kochenburger, associate clinical professor of law and director of graduate programs, is a specialist in insurance and consumer law. He currently serves as executive director of the Law School’s Insurance Law Center, the only center of its kind in the U.S. Kochenburger regularly consults with policyholders, government aggencies, and nonprofit organizations on insurance and consumer issues, serves as an expert witness in insurance-related lawsuits and is an associate editor for the American Bar Association's Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Law Journal.
