UConn Law Wins!

  • The Law School has adopted a “practice-based learning” requirement which will ensure that all students have at least one intensive, carefully supervised, live lawyering experience before graduating from law school. Fewer than 20 other U.S. law schools currently have a similar requirement.

  • UConn Law graduates Cheryl Chase '78, Joette Katz '77, and Linda Kelly '76 have been named to Hartford Magazine's 50 Most Influential list. Also included on the list are UConn's president, Susan Herbst, and Martha Stone, executive director of the Center for Children's Advocacy.

  • The UConn Law's Thomas J. Meskill '56 Law Library has been named by BestMastersPrograms.org as one of the 50 most amazing University libraries in the world.

  • Ryan Cook '14 is this year's Hastie Moot Court Champion. Raymond Carta '14 took home the award for "Best Oralist," and Michael Schoeneberger '14 won "Best Brief."
     

  • Congratulations to Luz Adorno '13, Evan Estrada '14, Rosendo Garza '15, Maria Rodriguez '14, Christina Williams '14, and Carolina Guiral Cuervo '15, winners of scholarships from the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association.

  • Under the guidance of Professor Tim Everett '84, students in the Law School's Criminal Clinic presented a case to the Connecticut Appellate Court on behalf of their client which resulted in the Court ordering a new trial.

  • Bessy Reyna '82 has been recognized by the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame as one of its 12 "Voices and Vision" honorees.

  • Tom Condon '75 has been recognized as the fifth recipient of Trinity College's Moses Berkman Memorial Journalism Award. Condon is a columnist with The Hartford Courant.

  • Congratulations to the 2012 William R. Davis Mock Trial Competition champions, Laura Ann Keller '15 and Carl Schoenherr '15.

  • Edward M. Kennedy, Jr. '97 will be recognized at a ceremony on October 30 with the 2012 Survivor Circle Award from the American Society for Radiation Oncology.

  • John D. Moore '83 has been elected to a second two-year term as president of the Wesleyan Lawyers Association, the University's first professional affinity group.

  • Perry A. Zirkel '76, a professor of education at Lehigh University, has been recognized by the American Educational Research Association for his outstanding contributions toward increasing practitioner and lay understanding of educational research.

  • On October 12, the Honorable Joette Katz '77, Professor Thomas Morawetz, and Professor Richard Pomp will be honored by the University's Alumni Association during the 2012 Alumni and Faculty Award Recognition ceremony.

  • Evan D. Flaschen '82, former Dean Jeremy Paul, the Honorable Pedro E. Segarra '85 and the Honorable Ellen Ash Peters will be recognized with awards from the Law School's Alumni Association at its annual meeting and awards dinner on October 10.

  • Ndidi N. Moses '05 has been appointed to serve on the State of Connecticut's Judicial Selection Commission. Her three year appointment began on September 10.

  • Maureen Danehy Cox '80, Linda L. Morkan '87 and Kathleen L. Nastri '86 have been recognized by Benchmark as among the top 250 women in litigation in America.

  • Pedro E. Segarra '85, mayor of the City of Hartford, has been named one of four recipients of a 2013 fellowship from The Urban Land Institute.

  • John L. Kelly '74 has received the Clara Fox Award for Outstanding Achievement. He was presented with the award at the New York Housing Conference's 38th Annual Awards Program.

  • Cheryl A. Chase '78, President Susan Herbst, and Joette Katz '77 have been recognized by Hartford Magazine in this year's selection of outstanding women leaders in Greater Hartford.

  • Michael A. Cantor '83 has been named by Governor Dannel P. Malloy to the board of directors of Connecticut Innovations, an organization that provides capital and operational insight to new technology companies in Connecticut.

  • Jennifer L. Zito '88 has been recognized by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers with its second Champion of State Criminal Justice Reform Award for her work to reform the state's criminal justice system.

  • Mike Aresco '76 has been named commissioner of the BIG EAST Conference by unanimous vote of the league's presidents. Aresco was formerly the executive vice president of programming of CBS Sports.

  • Thomas J. Riley '77 has been named a fellow by the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association.

  • Alani Golanski '86 was named a James Kent Scholar while completing his LL.M. at Columbia University School of Law. This designation is Columbia Law's highest academic distinction.

  • Ashley Baron Russo '07, Carrianna K. Field '07, and David Lawton '06 have been named to Hartford Business Journal's 40 Under Forty Class of 2012.
