Checklist for Returning Students
PRIORITY DEADLINE: April 25, 2008 is the priority deadline for grant assistance.
- If a student's FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) was not filed on the web last year (2007-2008), a PIN must be requested on the web (www.fafsa.ed.gov) as soon as possible. (School code: E00387)
- File the FAFSA on the web. Be sure to return the signature page to the address provided by the website.
- It is important to review the Financial Assistance Application Instructions for all other requirements to complete your application for financial assistance.
- Financial aid is awarded separately for June Term classes. Summer applications for aid will be available in March 2009. Grant assistance is NOT awarded for June term classes.
- REMEMBER: The priority grant deadline is April 25, 2008. Students who apply for grant assistance and submit all required forms after this deadline will be considered for grants based on available funding. Late applications may not be considered for grants until October 2008 based whether additional funding becomes available.
- FINALLY: Use the following checklist to be sure that your application is completed on time.
Immediate Checklist
- PIN number has been requested on the FAFSA website if PIN is not available from last year (2007-2008).
Forms that are due by the priority deadline
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been entered on the web and received by the federal processor. (School code: E00387) If a tax return has not yet been completed/filed, use estimated income. If you will NOT be 24 years old on or before 12/31/2008, include parent's income information on the FAFSA.
- Returning Student Application for Financial Assistance (2008-2009) (required from all applicants) a
If you are applying for grants and you will not be 24 years old on or before 12/31/2008, the following must also be submitted by the April 25, 2008 priotiry deadline:
- 2008-2009 Parent Information Form. If a tax return has not yet been completed/filed, use estimated income.
- Copy of parents' 2007 Federal Income Tax Return (signed) with ALL schedules and parents' 2007 W-2 Forms OR Statement of Non-filing. If the student is not 24 years of age on or before December 31, 2008 and the parent(s) and/or stepparent has not filed and does not plan to file a federal tax return, a review will be made of all W/2 forms and/or the Statement of Non-Filing . If requested by the Student Finance Office, official documentation from the IRS must be submitted regarding the taxpayer's exemption from filing. If such documentation is not submitted and/or it is determined that the taxpayer is NOT exempt from filing a tax return, the student will NOT be considered for tuition remission grant.
The following documents are not required if you are applying for loans only but are required to be considered for grant assistance:
- Signed copy of Student's 2007 Federal Income Tax Return (signed) with ALL schedules and 2007 W-2 Forms OR Statement of Non-filing. If a federal tax return has not been filed, a Statement of Non-Filing will be reviewed. If requested by the Student Finance Office, official documentation from IRS must be submitted regarding the taxpayer's exemption from filing. If such documentation is not submitted and/or it is determined that the taxpayer is NOT exempt from filing a tax return, the student will NOT be considered for tuition remission grant OR Federal Stafford Loans.
- Copy of ALL 2007 W-2 Forms (used by employer to report wages to the IRS; required for a final award)
