Law School Class Cancellation Procedures for Weather and Other Contingencies

  1. The Law School Makes Its Own Closing Decisions
    • Closing decisions for the Law School are made by the Dean's office at the Law School.
    • Do not be confused by announcements from the Governor's office, other State agencies, or the Storrs campus.
  2. How We Communicate about Closures
    • Closing announcements will be posted on the Law School homepage and recorded on the Law School hotline: 860-570-5145.
    • We do not post on local radio and TV because they do not allow enough detail in description of closing times / classes cancelled.
    • Do not rely on media announcements.
  3. How We Make the Decision
    • Decisions are made by the Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration, in consultation with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Library & Technology, the UConn Police Master Sergeant, and the Law School Facilities Manager.
    • Decision makers may drive local streets to assess conditions as well as consult various weather sources.
    • The decision is never made lightly, and must balance academic and safety needs.
    • Individual students who are not comfortable driving in the existing weather conditions may exercise their discretion not to do so.
  4. Announcements from Storrs
    • Storrs will send announcements to the general University listservs;  these announcements only apply to those studying at the Storrs campus.
  5. Other Details
    • Normally cars may not be left on campus overnight; any car left on campus may be towed to allow for plowing.
    • If you must leave a car overnight, contact the UConn Police at 860-570-5173.
    • The City of Hartford imposes on-street parking bans during snowstorms.
