Resources

Resources

The University of Connecticut School of Law is predominantly a PC environment. While some faculty members use Macs, support for Macintoshes is minimal both in terms of computer support and software compatibility.

Wireless network access is available throughout the Law School. The Law Library provides more than 900 network access points throughout the facility. All 400 individual study carrels are networked. With an appropriately configured laptop, students may access the local area network, as well as the Internet. The Law Library also houses the student computer labs, as well as the Law School's technology training classroom.

The labs contain 35 PCs, as well as two networked printers. Students are charged $0.10 per page for printing. The labs also contain dedicated Lexis and Westlaw printers to which students may print free of charge.

From time to time, the student computer labs are reserved for training or exams. A note is posted on the door the day before the room is reserved. Students can use always the OPAC machines located throughout the library for research. In the event of an emergency requiring computer use while a lab is reserved, IT staff can assist. Each carrel throughout the library has a network drop for use with laptops.

Software in Use on Campus

Software currently being used includes: Windows XP/7; IE/Firefox; Microsoft Office XP/2007;  WordPerfect 12/X5; Lexis/Nexis; Westlaw; CALI; TWEN - The West Education Network (web-based courseware); and a variety of other electronic databases available either on the Web or on CD-ROM.

Email & Network Accounts

All students are provided with an email and network account. Accounts will be created for you prior to your arrival on campus. If you forget your password or login ID, please contact the Helpdesk at 570-5158 or email the Help Desk.

Internet Service Providers (ISPs)

To obtain Internet access from home you will need to contact an ISP. We do not provide dial-in modem access. See Obtaining an ISP for more information.

Training

Training

The Information Systems department provides computer workshops every semester. In the past, we have offered workshops in Lotus Notes, MS Power Point and MS Excel. Please contact the Help Desk if there is a topic for which you would like us to run a workshop or to learn about other training opportunities for Faculty and Staff.
