Miguel Poiares Maduro, Advocate General, European Court of Justice

Miguel Poiares Maduro has been an Advocate General at the Court of Justice since October 2003. He received his degree in law from the University of Lisbon in 1990. He became assistant lecturer at the European University Institute in 1991 and Doctor of Laws, European University Institute, Florence, 1996. He was named Professor at the Universidade Nova, Lisbon in 1997. Advocate General Maduro has visited a variety of educational institutions, including the London School of Economics; College of Europe, Natolin; Ortega y Gasset Institute, Madrid; Catholic University, Portugal; Institute of European Studies, Macao). In the United States, Advocate General Maduro has been a Fulbright Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard, and he has been a visiting professor at Chicago and Yale. He serves as co-director of the Academy of International Trade Law; co-editor (Hart Series on European Law and Integration, European Law Journal) and member of the editorial board of several law journals.
