The Honorable Joette Katz '77, commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Children and Families, has been named the Public Official of the Year by Governing magazine. Katz was recognized for her work in decreasing the number of children in group homes and placing them into less restrictive settings. She is credited with reducing by 70 percent the number of children in institutional care in Connecticut during the four years she has served as commissioner.
