Outstanding Young Alumna
Jami Layaou Hearn '02 has been recognized by the Wyoming Seminary as its 2012 Outstanding Young Alumna. Hearn is a graduate of the Wyoming Seminary and was recognized for her "exceptional, ongoing volunteer service and many contributions to the school." Hearn is an attorney in Wyoming County, PA.

Dozen Who Made A Difference
Brenda Bergeron '83, Michael Jefferson '95, Michael Albis '78, Pat Kaplan '78, Chris Meisenkothen '99, Benjamin Zivyon '87, John Stafstrom '81 and Ted Phillips '81 were named among the Connecticut Law Tribunes's "Dozen Who Made a Difference."

Public Official of the Year
The Honorable Joette Katz '77, commissioner of Connecticut's Department of Children and Families, has been named the Public Official of the Year by Governing magazine. Katz was recognized for her work in decreasing the number of children in group homes and placing them into less restrictive settings. She is credited with reducing by 70 percent the number of children in institutional care in Connecticut during the four years she has served as commissioner.

UConn Law in the Courts
Andrew J. McDonald '91 has been approved by the CT Senate and House of Representatives to serve as a justice on the CT Supreme Court. Governor Dannel P. Malloy has nominated Christine E. Keller '77 to be a judge on the Connecticut Appellate Court. He also has nominated six UConn Law graduates to become judges on the Superior Court including Michael A. Albis '78, Jason M. Lobo '94, Shelley A. Marcus '77, Maurice B. Mosley '75, Thomas G. Moukawsher '86 and Hope C. Seeley '89.

Interim Dean Willajeanne F. McLean has been named by On Being a Black Lawyer Magazine to its Power 100 for being a strong advocate for diversity in the legal profession. The honorees will be recognized at an event in Washington, DC in February.

January 9 marks the beginning of the regular session of the Connecticut General Assembly where thirteen Law School graduates will serve their local communities. Chris Murphy '02 has been sworn in to the US Senate and Joe Courtney '78 begins his fourth term in the US House of Representatives.

Misti Munster '09 has been recognized as "Katahdin Counsel" by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court for completion of 50 or more hours of pro bono work in her community. Munster is an associate at the Portland, ME office of Verrill Dana LLP.

The CT Latino News has named the Center for Children's Advocacy (CCA) as one of its "Champions of Change." The CCA was recognized for the work it has accomplished to affect change for Latinos and non-Latinos in Connecticut through volunteerism, policy implementation and the effective use of the legal system.
