Description:
Entries must be the original work of a single author, not previously published, and they must cover the fields of tort law, insurance law, civil procedure, evidence or other areas of practical concern to lawyers engaged in the defense or managment of the defense of civil litigation.
First place will win $2,000; second place will win $1,000; third place will win $500.

The Judge John R. Brown Scholorship Foundation

Description:
Four copies of a current legal writing must be submitted to teh Foundation with a letter of recommendation by a law school faculty member or other legal professional other than the author of the paper.
The winner will receive a $10,000 stipend.

American Judges Association Law Student Essay Competion
Deadline: June 02, 2008
Description:
Essays submitted for the 2008 competition MUST be under the category of "Search and Seizure Arising from Motor Vehicle Stops". Papers should be typed, double spaced on 8.5 by 11 inch white paper and 10-25 pages in length. Extensive footnoting or end noting is discouraged and is included in the paper's length. First prize is $3,000; second prize is $1,500; third prize is $1,000.

ABA Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal Law Student Writing Competition

Please submit hgh quality law student writings on real property, trust and estate law subjects of general and current interest.
First prize is $1500, free one year section membership and an expense paid trip to the Section's Fall Leadership Meeting in Montreal, Quebec. Second prize is $700 and third prize is $500.

The Federal Circuit Bar Association 2008 George Hutchinson Wriiting Competitio
Deadline: June 30, 2008
Description: The Federal Circuit Court of Appeals was established in 1982 by Congress as the first Article III appellate court to have exclusive jurisdiction over certain defined subject areas. Specifically, the Court's jurisdiction includes appeals from all patent litigation (nationwide), Patent and Trademark Office decisions, government contract claims, International Trade Commission, Merit Systems Appeals, and Veterans Appeals. Three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) will be awarded to the entry deemed by the judges to be the best entry and to merit the award. Second and third place cash prizes may also be awarded at the discretion of the judges. In addition, the winner will receive significant favorable publicity to the over 2,500 nationwide members of FCBA.
Entries to the contest may discuss any topic that lies within the procedure, substance, or scope of the jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Humbolt Research Fellowship
Deadline: December 31, 2008
Description:
The Humboldt Research Fellowship offers students an opportunity to carry out long-term research projects in Germany. Students should be under the age of 40 and already hold a doctorate. Applications are accepted throughout the year. The review process takes several months and the selection committee meets three times per year.
