The Insurance Law Center is hosting a symposium in Washington, DC on February 7 and 8 titled "The Political Economy of Financial Regulation." Professors Patricia A. McCoy and James Kwak will be presenters at the conference.

On February 7, Associate Dean Darcy Kirk will be the featured speaker for the New Orleans Association of Law Libraries meeting. Kirk is currently serving as president of the American Association of Law Libraries.

On February 5, the Public Interest Law Group (PILG) will offer a session on how to effectively complete the 2013 application for PILG fellowships. Last year, fourteen students were awarded fellowships where they served at organizations throughout the country.

Students are invited to join members of the IT staff for Tech Tuesday on February 5. A member of the IT staff will be available to answer questions about technology, assist with problems and show new tools.

Andrew J. McDonald '91 has been approved by the CT Senate and House of Representatives to serve as a justice on the CT Supreme Court. Governor Dannel P. Malloy has nominated Christine E. Keller '77 to be a judge on the CT Appellate Court. Governor Malloy also has nominated six UConn Law graduates to become judges on the Superior Court.

On January 28, the Insurance Law Center will present Dr. Christian Armbrüster who will speak on the European Union Solvency II initiative. Dr. Armbrüster is a noted insurance law expert from Berlin, Germany.

On January 24, the Office of International Programs will present a talk by Dr. Dire Tladi LL.M. '00 who will speak about his experience as a legal advisor of the South African Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

The Semester in DC Program offers students the opportunity to expand their horizons, gain valuable contacts and legal experience, build their resumes, and learn how our federal government works, all while working in or with a federal agency, congressional office or non-governmental organization (NGO), and living in Washington, DC. An informational session will be held on January 29.
