Since 2002, Professor Schmeiser has taught law at American University's Washington College of Law and the University of Connecticut School of Law. Before that, she worked as a litigator in Washington D.C. at Shea & Gardner and as a law clerk for the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia. She began her teaching career while pursuing a Ph.D. in English, when she taught undergraduate courses in literature and theory at Brown University and in Women's Studies at Yale. She received a Ph.D. in English Literature from Brown in 2002, a J.D. from Yale Law School in 1999, and an A.B. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University in 1989.
