Peter Kochenburger is the Executive Director of the Insurance Law Center and Director of Graduate Programs at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he teaches courses in insurance and consumer law. He consults with insurance companies, government agencies and policyholders on insurance and consumer issues, and has served as an expert witness in a number of insurance-related lawsuits. Before joining the faculty, Professor Kochenburger was Counsel at Travelers Property Casualty for 11 years, where he managed significant coverage and bad faith litigation, as well as legislative and regulatory affairs across a spectrum of subjects, including workers compensation, OSHA, guaranty funds, tort reform, antitrust, and environmental issues. Professor Kochenburger also spent four and a half years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division of Iowa's Department of Justice, where he enforced state and federal consumer credit laws and led litigation nationwide against several of the largest financial services companies in the country. From 1986-88 he served as Special Assistant to the Dean of Harvard Law School.
Professor Kochenburger graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School (1986) and holds his B.A. cum laude in history from Yale University (1982), where he won the McClintock Award for his senior essay in American history.
