Assistant Attorney General and Army Reserve Captain Thomas Saadi will present a brief overview of the history, culture, religion and language of the Middle East with a focus on Arabs and Muslims.  Attorney Saadi has given this presentation to the Army’s 4th Legal Support Organization as part of their annual training requirements, the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Regional On-Site training in New York City and the JAG/IG USAR War Council Conference in Houston, Texas.

Attorney Saadi writes:
“Regarding this topic and its relationship to the law, I believe it is inherently part of the proper practice of law to know and understand both your clients’ and adversaries’ background.  This is particularly important in the growing field of international business (contract and transactional), investigation, defense and prosecution of terrorists and enemy combatants, as well as enforcing the provisions of the applicable international conventions, rules of engagement and law of war.  That said, I believe this topic has a direct nexus with real life legal issues.”

Biography:
Captain Thomas J. Saadi, US Army Reserve, was commissioned November 10, 2005, and is currently the Chief Operations Officer for the 4th Legal Support Organization in Bronx, New York.  Prior to this assignment CPT Saadi served as the acting S-4 for the 4th Legal Support Organization. CPT Saadi is an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Connecticut and Legal Team Leader in the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.  He has successfully settled and litigated cases resulting in refunds of hundreds of thousand of dollars to Connecticut consumers and millions of dollars in civil penalties collected from companies and contractors engaged in illegal business practices.  In 2008, CPT Saadi was appointed Co-Chair of the Attorney General’s select Veterans and Servicemembers Advisory Response Team (“VSMART”).  In that position CPT Saadi has been responsible for recovering tens of thousands of dollars in benefits and consumer restitution for current and former service members. CPT Saadi is serving his fifth term on the Danbury City Council and serves as the Council’s Minority Leader. He has chaired many major Committees addressing issues ranging from multi-million dollar public safety projects, municipal water distribution, neighborhood blight, and road reconstruction.  He recently lead the successful effort to pass local ordinances providing greater property tax relief for veterans and new job and salary protections for municipal employees activated for military duty.
