The U.S. Congress Votes Database

The U. S. Congress Votes Database from The Washington Post is a database of U. S. Congressional votes from 1991 to the present. It offers aggregated data for each Congress, as well as individual data for each member of Congress. For each chamber, you can browse the data in a variety of ways, including by bill number, member name, members by state, most-voted-on bills, key votes, vote margins, members voting with their parties, and members who’ve missed the most votes.

In addition to vote data, the site provides detailed information about each member’s voting record, including how the member voted on key votes, how many votes the member missed in the most recent Congress, and the percentage of time the member has voted with her or her party. Brief biographical information and links to related Washington Post articles are also included for each member.

The site also publishes an RSS feed for every current member of Congress, so you can get notified each time that person votes, and each feed includes the member’s position in the last ten votes as well. A feed of the most recent votes of both chambers is also published. The site and feeds are updated daily while Congress is in session.
