A new study published in Computers & Education has found that students who use their laptops to surf the web during class not only have less ability to comprehend what is going on in the classroom but also cause other students around them to underperform.
The study, by researchers at York University in Canada, found that undergraduates who multitask on laptops comprehend less of what has been covered in a lecture than do other students. Those students sitting around a multitasker also showed reduced comprehension of lecture material.
