Solo Practice University, a web-based educational and professional networking community for solo lawyers and law students, recently celebrated its first year in operation. It offers a collection of more than 350 individual classes on substantive law topics as well as on the basics of running a solo practice. The lectures, most of which are in video format, are supplemented by written materials and are taught by a faculty that consists of practicing lawyers and experts, some nationally known, who are available to speak with students through study group forums, live chat, and "office hours."

SPU is also designed as a social network, where users can connect with each other through common interest groups organized around geographic locations, practice areas, and other interests. It also allows students to create blogs and websites free of charge. Vendor discounts on various products and services are also provided.

There are numerous subscription plans offering monthly, quarterly, or annual rates.

For more, read a detailed review or watch an interview with Connecticut lawyer Susan Cartier Liebel, the founder of SPU, as she discusses going solo.
