The Practice of Mediation

The Practice of Mediation: A Video Integrated Text, the second edition of a casebook by Professor James Stark and Douglas Fenkel, has been released by Aspen Publishing.

Professor Stark is director of the Law School's Mediation Clinic. He has been a clinical law teacher for more than 35 years, first at the Washington College of Law, American University and since 1979 at the University of Connecticut School of Law. He supervised students in a wide variety of representational matters, including prison legal services, special education and housing and employment discrimination cases, before launching the Mediation Clinic in 1994. He also teaches Negotiation and Evidence.[ and Torts.] He has published widely, including "Preliminary Reflections on the Establishment of a Mediation Clinic," 2 Clinical L. Rev. 457 (1996), selected for inclusion in Hurder, et. al, Clinical Anthology: Readings for Live-Client Clinics (1997).
 
In other capacities, Professor Stark has served as associate dean for academic affairs at UConn Law, as an editor of the Clinical Law Review, as chair of the Association of American Law School's Committee on ADR Clinics and as the reporter to the Connecticut Council for Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Practice (CCDM) Mediation Standards Committee, work that earned him that organization's Outstanding Service Award in 2001.

  • On May 20, the Law School's Insurance Law Center will present a symposium on Lawyers Professional Liability. The event is being presented in cooperation with the Hartford Chapter of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

  • On May 17, Professor Richard Pomp will be a presenter at the 10th Annual New Mexico Tax Policy Conference in Albuquerque.

  • On May 15, Professor Darcy Kirk will be the luncheon speaker at the annual meeting of the New Jersey Law Librarians Association where she will update the group on the activities of the Association of American Law Libraries (AALL). Kirk currently serves as president of the AALL.
