The World Series is just around the corner, and if you’re a baseball fan, you might be interested in A People’s History of Baseball by Mitchell Nathanson, which was just added to the library’s new book shelf.

The book examines the growth and development of baseball in American history and culture and, at the same time, challenges many of the myths that have surrounded baseball for much of its history.  The author looks at baseball through the prism of power, nationalism, and race relations, disputing the patriotic stories and romantic ideals that have made baseball practically a symbol of America itself.
