The Little Book of Hunting and Fishing Law by Cecil C. Kuhne III has just been added to the "new book shelf" near the library’s main entrance.

The book examines where the law, and the world of hunting and fishing, intersect, often with intriguing results. It takes a light-hearted look at 13 cases involving personal injuries, criminal offenses, product liability, intellectual property, and even freedom of religion. The cases attempt to answer such questions as:

  • Can a game warden set up a roadblock to "snag" fishermen who possess more than their legal limit?

  • Can a shotgun manufacturer be held liable for punitive damages in the event of an exploding barrel?

  • Can fishing rods be exclusively trademarked simply because they are the color green?

  • Can a law requiring hunters to wear safety orange infringe the Constitution’s free exercise clause when one’s religion discourages the wearing of such vivid clothing?

  • Can a fisherman who is accidentally injured by an errant hook of another fisherman recover for his damages?

  • Can a jogger who is randomly shot by a hunter on public land sue the city for negligence in preventing such accidents?
