The Honor Code: How Moral Revolutions Happen by Kwame Anthony Appiah has just been added to the "new book shelf" on the library’s third floor.

The book examines the role that honor has played in driving moral progress in the world. Through a combination of philosophy and historical narrative, it explores the way in which honor, which used to justify practices such as dueling and Chinese foot binding, ultimately became the most effective weapon against these practices. Honor, the author argues, has the power to end human suffering and was the driving force behind democratic movements that led to the emancipation of women, slaves, and the oppressed.
