Courtwatchers: Eyewitness Accounts in Supreme Court History by Clare Cushman was recently added to the library’s new book shelf.
The book is the first history of the Supreme Court told primarily through eyewitness accounts from court insiders. It provides readers with a behind-the-scenes look at the court through memoirs, letters, newspaper accounts, and diaries written by the Justices, their spouses and children, court reporters, clerks, oral advocates, court staff, journalists, and other eyewitnesses.
With a foreword by Chief Justice John Roberts, the book covers such topics as the justices’ families, the law clerks, discord and feuds, and the lawyers who have argued before the court.
The author talks about her book here and here. Read a review of the book here.
