The Rules Committee Task Force to Study Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) is recommending that Connecticut not adopt MCLE at this time.

The task force, created by Chief Justice Chase Rogers and comprised of 10 lawyers from various practice areas and experience levels, is instead proposing a one-day “boot camp” for newly-admitted lawyers and an annual voluntary professional day in each of the courthouses. 

This would leave Connecticut as one of only 4 states without a MCLE requirement.

The Connecticut Bar Association has endorsed a full MCLE program, and, according to the Connecticut Law Tribune, CBA leaders say there is overwhelming support in CBA ranks for MCLE.  Other attorneys disagree, with opponents concerned that the cost of MCLE could be too onerous, especially for young lawyers, solos, and small firm practitioners.
