Connecticut attorneys are not required to reveal whether they have professional malpractice insurance, but that may be about to change.
A bill pending in the Connecticut General Assembly would require attorneys to check off on the annual registration form whether they maintain malpractice insurance, and the information would eventually be posted on the Judicial Branch website starting in 2013.
Although only one state, Oregon, mandates malpractice coverage, 27 states already require some level of disclosure, either during attorney registration, in writing to clients, or as part of fee agreements, according to an article in the Connecticut Law Tribune.
