Biography

Professor Leyden is the Director of the Law School's Tax Clinic and teaches the Tax Clinic program. Professor Leyden received her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1982, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984. Upon graduating from the Law School, she served as a clerk to the Honorable Herbert Chabot, United States Tax Court. Prior to joining the faculty of the Law School, Professor Leyden practiced tax law with Steptoe & Johnson, Washington, D.C., and Day, Berry & Howard, Boston, MA. She also served as both a hearing officer and manager with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue Appeal & Review Bureau from 1988 to 1995, and as a senior staff attorney with the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services Legal Division from 1995-1997.  Professor Leyden was nominated by her students and received the ABA Tax Section Pro Bono Award in 2005. Professor Leyden is an active participant in and frequent speaker before the ABA Tax Section.  Professor Leyden has been a contributing author to Connecticut Tax Handbook, published by CCH and is the author of Advocating for Low Income Taxpayers: A Clinical Studies Casebook and Practice Handbook (now published in ebook format.). Professor Leyden is admitted to practice in Connecticut and is a member of the bars of the United States Tax Court, the Federal Court of Claims, United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
