The September 2012 issue of the ABA Journal features an interview with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan in which she talks about her influences in writing, reading, and reasoning.
In it she discusses her earliest memories of writing, who taught her the most about writing, her first oral argument, and what she believes are the two most important things about brief-writing.
The article is a continuation of a series of interviews with Supreme Court Justices by Bryan A. Garner, noted legal writing expert and editor-in-chief of Black’s Law Dictionary. The interviews appeared in the 2008-2009 issue of the Scribes Journal of Legal Writing.
