December 10 is Human Rights Day, which commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations on that day in 1948. The declaration represents the first global expression of rights for all people, and it has been translated into over 350 different languages.
The theme for Human Rights Day 2010 is human rights defenders who act to end discrimination. Those who speak out against discrimination, exclusion, oppression, and violence, and those who advocate justice and seek to protect the victims of human rights violations, will be recognized and honored on this day.
