Historical Newspapers
Need some historical perspective when researching a legal topic? Then check out one of the library’s online historical newspapers.
-New York Times Historical provides digital images of every page from every issue, from 1851 to 2003, including the New York Times Book Review. Every issue is full text searchable and includes articles, editorials, display and classified ads, obituaries, photos, maps, and graphics.
-Hartford Courant Historical provides full page and article images from the first issue in 1764 through 1984. America’s oldest continuously published newspaper, the Courant was a fervent backer of U.S. independence and the most circulated newspaper during the American revolution.
-Early American Newspapers offers fully searchable, cover-to-cover reproductions of nearly 350,000 issues from over 700 historical American newspapers, totaling more than l.5 million pages. The collection includes newspapers from 23 states and the District of Columbia, with a focus on the 18th century.
-Pennsylvania Gazette 1784-1800 provides the full text of this important newspaper, considered to be the "New York Times of the 18th Century."
