Google has just released Ngram Viewer, a new analytical tool based on their Google Books digitized library.

When you enter phrases into the viewer, it creates a graph showing how those phrases have appeared in books over a period of time. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, researchers are using the tool to track cultural trends and catalogue human culture over the past 200 years.

Robert Ambrogi has used the tool to look for trends in the law by graphing phrases drawn from the legal profession For the detailed results, click here.
