Wednesday, March 21: "The Politics of Religious Freedom: Should Medical Coverage of Contraceptives be Mandated by Law?"
In a policy proposed by President Barack Obama, most health insurance plans must cover contraceptive drugs and devices approved by the FDA for women. The original policy was narrowed so that church-affiliated universities, hospitals and charities would not have to provide contraceptive coverage to female employees. They also would not have to subsidize its cost. This debate touches upon many issues such as women's health, religious freedom, insurance, and Constitutional interpretation. A round table format will allow students to engage in discussion of the policy from a diversity of perspectives.
Lunch served at 12:00 p.m.
Discussion begins at 12:30 p.m.
Janet M. Blumberg Hall, Hosmer Hall
