The CBA Board of Governors has voted in favor of joining amicus briefs in support of federal benefits for same-sex couples.
The briefs, which challenge the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), will be filed in Windsor v United States and/or Pederson v. Office of Personnel Management.
The decision to join in the briefs is controversial, as some association members feel that the group should not take a position that has social and political implications.
The briefs are being prepared by the Civil Rights Project of Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), a Boston-based group that has lobbied for same-sex marriage in Connecticut.
