Like many states, Connecticut is facing budget shortfalls.  The state courthouse libraries have seen a dramatic reduction in their budget, and six libraries are set to close this year.  The Connecticut Law Tribune has a free article discussing the situation, and highlighting an online petition drive created jointly by library and bar associations to save the libraries.

“The practice of law in Connecticut would certainly be hurt by the closing of these libraries,” said Marcove. “Why should the small or solo practitioner be put at a disadvantage in their access to information that would allow them to fairly represent their client? Why should the self-represented [litigants] be put at a disadvantage because only selective districts have reasonable access to a law library?”

Read more and find the links to the petitions from the Criminal Law Library Blog and Out of the Jungle. Note that only Connecticut residents may sign the petitions.
