Cameras at the Supreme Court?

Should U. S. Supreme Court oral arguments by televised? Justice Samuel Alito recently weighed in on the issue in a lecture he delivered at Drake University. The court does not allow cameras in the courtroom, but it does make audiotapes of oral arguments available to the public. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania has introduced legislation that would require the Court to allow televised broadcasts of its proceedings. The bill was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in April and is expected to be voted on by the full Senate this year. A similar bill has been introduced in the House.
