Brief-Writing Tip: Avoid Block Quotes

A recent legal writing tip from The Appellate Record focuses on the use of block quotes in briefs..

Their advice:  instead of using block quotes, which essentially just tell a judge what a case says, you should tell the court what the cases you are citing mean.  That is, state the legal rules of the case and tie them directly in to your own facts.
