Students who want to use a legal dictionary often feel frustrated that they have to haul it around. The hardbound edition of Black's is pretty heavy. As we reported last year, if you have an iPhone you can buy an online version of Black's Law Dictionary or Barron's Law Dictionary. At that time the iPad had not been introduced. Now, even iPad users can download these apps from the iTunes store. You can find the iTunes entry for Black's here and the entry for Barron's here. Barron's, at $9.99 is "Black's lite." It may work for basic definitions but does not have enough features to support actual research. Black's, at $49.99, still does not match the print version or the powerful search features available on Westlaw but it is, well, Black's. Only the 8th edition is available from iTunes. The deluxe 9th edition is in print and available at the Bookstore for $115.00 (or on Amazon for much more). The paperback Black's is still a bargain (and much lighter) at $35.00.
