Bilbo’s Contract in The Hobbit Analyzed

James Daily, attorney and author of The Law of Superheroes, recently provided an extensive analysis of the contract between Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarves from the movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

According to Daily, the contract is broadly similar to a modern contract because Tolkien wrote the Shire as a close analog to pastoral England, and the common law fundamentals of contract law have not changed significantly since the time that the Shire is meant to evoke.
