Welcome from the Director
Dear First Year Student:
Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Connecticut School of Law! This Office is one of the last to greet you, but will remain a part of your experience starting now and continuing through your alumni years. Our goal is to make sure that you get the most out of your extracurricular time during your student years—from soliciting internships with law firms, public interest employers, government agencies, and judges to working with you to decide on your career plans and aspirations. We look forward to helping you research employers, craft cover letters and negotiate a position. We view ourselves as a clearinghouse for knowledge on jobs and will survey you on your experiences throughout law school and, in turn, make student-reported information available to you for interview preparation and career decisions.
Some of the services we offer our students include:- Individual career counseling with our three attorney career counselors
- Career panels, workshops, and networking opportunities
- On and off-campus recruitment programs
- Mock interview programs
- EASELaw, the online home of Career Services, which includes job postings
- Judicial clerkship database
- Funding to attend public interest career fairs, apply to judicial clerkships
- Resource materials, including office publications and an extensive library
We wish you the best of luck as you commence your legal career. We will hold several orientation sessions and workshops for the first year class after November 1, so we encourage you to use these next few weeks to navigate your way through the law school and transition to your new life as a law student. We look forward to working with each of you.
Best,
María Jimena Rivera, Esq.
