How We Can Help You Hire Wiser and Market Quicker

Recruiting Programs

The Office of Career Services participates in, and hosts, a variety of formal recruiting programs to connect law students and legal employers. Our formal programs include:

  • Early Interview Programs — New York, NY, Boston, MA and Washington, DC
    1. Held separately in late August, these Law School sponsored programs bring legal employers from the greater New York, Boston and Washington, DC areas together to meet with our students prior to the start of Fall semester classes.
  • Fall On-Campus Interviewing — Hartford, CT
    1. Throughout September, the Law School is buzzing with interviewers as they spend time on-campus interviewing students for summer and post-graduate job opportunities.
  • Equal Justice Works Career Fair & Conference — Washington, DC
    1. Held at the end of October, this event brings together nearly 200 public interest and government employers and over 1000 law students from across the nation for two days of interviews and informational sessions.
  • New York University Public Interest Career Fair — New York, NY
    1. Hosted by New York University in early February, this program offers students interested in public interest law to interview with public interest and government employers over two days.
  • Spring On-Campus Interviewing and Job Fair — Hartford, CT
    1. Held in early March, these programs provide legal employers the opportunity to come on-campus to meet with our students either at a job fair or through pre-scheduled interview times.

Cultural Diversity Initiative

The Cultural Diversity Initiative is a unique program that offers legal employers direct access to an exceptional pool of first year students of color early in the their Law School careers. The program, spearheaded by the Black Law Students Association and coordinated in conjunction with the Office of Career Services, is traditionally held in late January. Through the program, participating employers are able to review resumes of first year students of color, conduct interviews with selected candidates and, ideally, offer a summer associate position (or positions) to a first year student that met with the firm as a result of the Cultural Diversity Initiative.

Mock Interview Program

In an effort to help students prepare for job interviews, the Office of Career Services hosts Mock Interview Programs in both the fall and spring semesters immediately preceding our formal recruiting programs. These mock interview sessions match students up with local attorneys who volunteer to simulate a 20-minute interview and then provide individualized feedback to the students. Typically, participating attorneys will meet with up to four students at each program.

Academic Year Student Programming

The Office of Career Services tries to provide our students with a host of programming to aid them in their job searching as well as their transition into the world of practice. While the program topics vary each year, here is a sampling of some programs that have been hosted:

  • Successful Women Attorneys — Directing Your Path in Practice
  • Intellectual Property Law — Aspects of Practice
  • Nuts and Bolts of Judicial Internships
  • Choosing Small, Choosing Smart — How to Identify the Right Law Firm for You
  • How to Survive, and Thrive, in Your First Legal Job
  • Profiles in Public Interest Law

Summer Experience Surveys

Every fall the Office of Career Services asks returning students to provide us with feedback about their summer experiences. Students are asked to complete a survey form commenting on everything from the interview process to the hours and salary to the substantive work that they were exposed to during their summer. These surveys are kept on file in the Office of Career Services as an additional resource for students to use when researching legal employers in their future job searches. Please encourage your summer associates to complete and return the surveys, as they can be a terrific marketing tool for your organization.
