The Connecticut Public Health Association (CPHA) is looking for a student intern for the 2009 legislative session. The student should have an interest in health care policy and the legislative process. The internship provides an opportunity for a student to become acquainted with CPHA, public health advocacy and the legislative process. Duties include, but are not limited to, tracking bill activity, researching upcoming legislative initiatives, writing CPHA Advocacy Committee communications, preparing and updating legislative fact sheets, drafting letters to legislators, submitting written and/or oral testimony, attending public hearings, attending monthly CPHA Advocacy Committee meetings and other external meetings as a representative of CPHA, and reviewing and updating the Grassroots Advocacy Initiatives Network ("GAIN") membership and key legislators.

Internship Position – Medical-Legal Partnership Project
The Center for Children's Advocacy's Medical-Legal Partnership Project, a collaborative project that provides on-site legal assistance, education and training, and policy advocacy, to all of the City of Hartford's and the region’s pediatric centers, is looking for one or two energetic and dedicated law student interns for the Spring 2008 semester. Students must have excellent writing and legal reasoning skills, and should be familiar with basic aspects of poverty and public interest law, as well as demonstrate a commitment to public interest and/or health law issues. Students should have access to transportation (car), and will be expected to participate in client interviews, negotiations, litigation and legal research activities. In addition, students will participate in and assist attorneys on matters at the MLPP sites - Saint Francis Hospital, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Charter Oak Health Center, Community Health Services, Inc. and the Hospital of Central Connecticut (New Britain). Students will work for one or two law school credits (preferably two), and will be expected to complete all of the requirements of the law school's externship program. About the FOI Commission: The FOI Commission's mission is to administer and enforce the provisions of the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, and to thereby ensure citizen access to the records and meetings of public agencies in the State of Connecticut.
