Vjollca Prroni"Studying insurance law abroad is a great challenge, but Professor Baker makes it easier. I like the give and take of class discussion. I have found myself among other students thinking more deeply about the importance of insuring the life of the people in my country." - Vjollca Prroni
LL.M. in US Legal Studies '98, Ron Brown Fellow
Lawyer in the Drafting Law Division,
Department of Justice, Tirana, Albania

Professor Mark W. Janis teaches the International Aspects of Insurance Law"Insurance always has had an international aspect, but at no time has the industry been so global, and at no time has its demand been greater for the services of able and ambitious international lawyers. The Law School's commitment to a global curriculum, the wealth of our exchange programs and our international network of students, scholars and practitioners attract applicants with an interest in international law and inspire others who might have been unaware of the opportunities around the world. There are graduates of the Law School practicing in London, Rio, Hong Kong, Guangdong, Madrid, Tashkent, and The Hague, indeed all over the globe." - Professor Mark W. Janis, author of An Introduction to International Law, co-author of European Human Rights Law and Cases and Commentary on International Law

A center of insurance, finance and technological innovation, Connecticut is a leading provider of services to the global economy. Increasingly, Connecticut is a magnet for foreign capital and multinational enterprises. Moreover, Connecticut exports more per capita than any other state in the United States. Indeed, one quarter of the state's economy depends on foreign trade.

A Global PerspectiveIn the twenty-first century, lawyers and their clients should be prepared for the complex legal problems that arise from transnational business. To that end, the Law School has committed substantial resources to bringing a global perspective to legal education. Building on our international tradition, the work of the Insurance Law Center encompasses not only Connecticut and the United States but also the global economy.
