The University of Connecticut School of Law is located in Hartford, the state capital. Hartford's location in New England is terrific. In less than an hour's drive, one will find excellent hiking trails, ocean views, organic farms, skiing and snowboarding, and quaint villages. Students can drive from the Hartford area to Boston or New York in about two hours. Additionally, numerous national and international flights are available at Bradley International Airport, which is just twenty-five minutes from the Law School.
Hartford is an increasingly thriving cultural center. Real Art Ways, an alternative multidisciplinary arts organization, hosts contemporary art exhibitions, movies, concerts, readings, performances and monthly "Creative Cocktail" events. The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts presents major Broadway shows, symphony orchestras, films, and jazz, blues and cabaret performances. The Wadsworth Atheneum, the oldest public art museum in the United States, has extraordinary collections and shows. UConn Law School is in Hartford’s historic West End neighborhood. The area is rich in community spirit, architecture, natural beauty and unique dining and entertainment options. The West End is what one might call a "Front Porch" community: neighbors stop on the street to say hello, residents participate in community groups and law students are welcomed with warmth and respect. Just a short walk from the Law School, Farmington Avenue is home to over a dozen restaurants and bars, historic museums, and a number of independently-owned shops. Just a few blocks away, Elizabeth Park contains acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, numerous ponds, recreational facilities, a gourmet restaurant and one of the largest municipal rose gardens in the country.
Many students live in beautiful turn-of-the-century apartment buildings and homes, and there are also a variety of modern residential buildings in Hartford and West Hartford. Rents typically range from $750 to $1,400 per month for one and two bedroom apartments.
UConn Law School is less than three miles away from West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square, where one can shop, eat, watch a movie, exercise or just visit with friends. Many law students find terrific nightlife and housing in West Hartford and other nearby towns.
