Insurance Regulation in the EU

This course will explore insurance regulation in the European Union, emphasizing the recent EU 'Single Market' regulatory structure and EU Treaty provisions, especially the Free Movement of Services. The course will also examine prior efforts to harmonize insurance regulation in Europe, and recent legislation involving reinsurance, insurance intermediaries, and the corporate structure of insurance companies. The course will conclude with a discussion of the EU's system of 'Home Country Regulation' and competition/antitrust law. (Course and its description pending faculty approval).
